Dr. Mittelhauser earned her Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in 1993, her Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, and her Bachelor’s degree in History from Northwestern University. She completed a clinical internship, specializing in inpatient treatment, sexual abuse/trauma, and adolescent behavior problems at the Southlake Center for Mental Health in Merrillville, Indiana.

Prior to earning her doctorate, Dr. Mittelhauser taught and provided counseling in inner city schools in Chicago and Wilmington, DE, worked with an adolescent girls’ gang through the auspices of the Chicago Boys’ Club, provided rehabilitation services for injured and disabled workers, and was Associate Dean for Academic Services at the College of DuPage. In this capacity she assisted special needs students and supervised the Learning Lab and COD’s neighborhood learning facilities.

Dr. Mittelhauser founded Educational & Psychological Services in April 1997. The corporation began in an office suite shared with a psychiatrist. As the demand for services grew, the current building at 847 N. Center Street was purchased in 2000 and quickly remodeled. The practice expanded to include Terence Cozad, Psy.D. and, later, the group’s psychiatrist Nancy Pecen, M.D.

Dr. Mittelhauser specializes in assessing children and adults with learning disabilities, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and anxiety and depression. She also has done extensive work in incest and sexual trauma. In all of her work Dr. Mittelhauser brings her previous experience to bear and utilizes a variety of treatment strategies including short-term solution focused treatment, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and self psychology. She participates in a variety of continuing education activities each year to stay abreast of new research and techniques in clinical psychology.

Dr. Mittelhauser is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Illinois Psychological Association, the Infant and Child Mental Health Association, and the Play Therapy Association. She is also on the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. Dr. Mittelhauser has practiced as a Clinical Psychologist since 1994.
